Ginger Winters
The Art of Silk
It is with great pleasure that we introduce this virtual Foyer Gallery exhibition of Ginger Winter’s silk paintings. For those of you who are local to the South Lake Tahoe area, you will possibly know Ginger as a Graphic Designer who, among other clients, serves as the graphic designer for Lake Tahoe Community College as well as an adjunct instructor teaching graphic design courses. What you may not know, however, is that several years ago Ginger began painting and her medium of choice is colored dyes on silk.
This virtual exhibition is a collection of recent silk paintings that focus on the beauty of our natural world and the animals that inhabit it. What will become abundantly clear to you when you first view this exhibition is Ginger’s abiding love of pure, highly saturated color. Ginger has also explored some very interesting techniques within the discipline of silk painting that give her paintings a unique look.
To elaborate on the various techniques of silk painting, we will be hosting a synchronous Zoom artist’s talk with Ginger on Thursday, February 18, 6:00pm Pacific Time. To join this event, click on the RSVP button here in our gallery website. Once we receive your RSVP, we will email you the Zoom link for the event. Additionally, for those of you who are interested in learning about and experimenting with silk painting, the college’s CONNECT Program will be offering a silk painting workshop with Ginger as the instructor. Check the college’s website for specific dates and times.
